THE GOLDEN GIRL!
She purred
like a pussy cat, growled like a tiger. I held her in my arms and it felt so
fine. She fell silkily into them like a divine maiden into her rescuer's, Ok, ok I'll shut it. She's a
guitar. A rather Lovely one but nonetheless, a lump of wood.
Guitar shopping today in town..
Ahhhhhhyyyyye Loved it. Popped down to Denmark street to get my paws all over
some Vintage Lovelies. I've always dreamed of having a real old '70's beauty and
have had my heart set on a Les Paul of some sort for years now. (Steve Jones
helped light that fantasy and its never gone out.) Despite numerous boys
thoughtful efforts to put me off on the basis that one would be far too heavy
for me, being a girl.
The day has come where I absolutely need to
"up" the quality of the guitar I use. On stage, on my recordings, the old baby
needs a rest.
I firstly tried the Les Paul "Standard"
who's title does not quite fit my style which I just can't seem to ignore, even
for the sake of a sound. Like it or lump it. I am a girl you know.
On to a Les Paul Deluxe with which
there was no Love lost. Next up a '98, '88 and then a '78 Les Paul Custom which
was getting closer but still no cigar. Back on the racks. A wee sideline stoop
with a lush old Gretsch which sounded divine. Great for a second guitar. (ooooooh,
get her!) I still long for my number 1.
Gibson 335, adorable, but far too many
around on other known female guitarists for it to feel personal enough to me.
I'm a girl but not that kind of girl. Here she comes! The Golden Girl
appears. Last but by far not least, tucked away on the wall behind the
counter was an old Les Paul Signature. Never tried one before but it was a
Lovely guitar alright. Felt the warmest tone and most comfortable to play yet.
Good long cut away but still beautiful body, heaps of charm and individuality. I
adored the old volume controls that change the sound with a little flick.
Perfect for one who's heels don't allow comfortable effect pedal usage on
stage....I am a girl, remember.
Ahhhhh. I get to sleep on it. Guitars,
guitars, guitars. Beautiful guitars. Tonight is the test. She was by far the
best of the day but I intend to check out as many as I can till I find my dream
girl. Unless I have a sleepless night and I suffer withdrawal symptoms. Highly
possible but I'm holding up ok just now.
And how could I forget that, for as I
stopped at the next shop to check on another Les Paul Custom, (as recommended by
my guitar Loving girlfriend Petra.) whilst asking the obligatory guitar nerd
shop assistant for a try out I asked for a Marshall JCM800 and got asked if I
knew what it was....
:-D
Many sweet thanks to the first Lovely shop
assistant (who was by far not a nerd) for today remembering that I bought
my first Gibson guitar off him. Not only in a completely different guitar shop
some time ago but also the exact details of the special order I put in for
silver hardware, a paint job and various other specific little requests that
even I forgot! It did prompt my memory however, to the fact that he gave me a
WHACK of a Lovely discount that time around......(to be kept in mind if I don't
sleep tonight over Goldie) ;-)
I am a girl. And just sometimes it can be of
benefit.
Night night folks.
