KINKY!
Yes, that is me. I'm
decidedly Kinky. Not the kind of Kinky that I bet you grubby little puppies are.
It's time to ramble on....
I didn't update my diary for
some time last week, you may have noticed. This was because I was off back up in
the lakes with no p.c. (strange but probably quite healthy to be old fashioned -
you know, that pen and paper lark?) Oh, yes, them were the days....pen and paper
that won't suddenly disappear or break down in front of your eyes because they
feel like it. Unless of course you are a bit like me and have a habit of jumping
in Trafalgar square fountains and coming out with money and train ticket in
soggy pieces in pocket. It's happened on more than one occasion now and that's
just in that particular fountain - I've trawled through many in endless
celebration of La Dolce Vita - although I'm sure no attempts were such visual
feasts as Anita Ekberg's go.
Anyway, up in the Lakes I've
been. By the water. I'm a sucker for water, it's marvellous. And luckily having
such a glamorous Mother, (residing 20 yards from the sea front) I get to go up
and stroll about hiding in the dunes and stone searching to my heart's content.
Ok, ok, I know, you are probably sitting in a moody sweaty office in central
London whilst reading this....I'll shut it.
Look who is hiding in my garden!
Anyway, the point was, I
dragged out a Kinks CD whilst up there, and Mam and I blasted our way around
with it blaring from the car stereo. I suddenly realised how perfect a moment
that was. Her, me, music, sea, sun, animals, green, little glorious bro in the
back gloomily saying "you two are mad you are, youv'e gone mad" hills, life....you know
those moments. The Kinks tunes are super adorable too, one of those bands you
just know all the words to from being a kid - (NOT being a dedicated follower of
fashion I listened to all sorts, all day long as a nipper). Seriously great
songs though, knockout song writing! And I'd forgotten to even play them for so
long! I spend so much time writing my own songs I forget to play other peoples
very often!
Ahhhh, music. The Kinks. Boy
George. I bet you'll be less keen to hear me rant about the Culture
Club....well, I was a tiny tiny kid when I heard that! :-) What a voice though,
beautiful. We played all sorts. And it was all a dream. A real life one. All my
best memories have a soundtrack. It's marvellous. Music is power as Richard
Ashcroft says. Ooooh I'm loving that track too. It's so dreamy. I just noticed
he is playing at Wembley in December. Lucky sausage. I wish I was the sauce.
Great, I'll put that on now.....
I've been aware that whilst
cleaning my flat today I played The Buzzcock's What Do I Get? six times back to
back. And that's all I am prepared to admit. The street must be impressed. I can
hear them now...."luckily the lady at 44 has impeccable taste in music"
Send me in your favourite
memory or current moment soundtracks, I'm keen to know!
Right,
off I go, "Music is Power" for the hoovering.
